Raku Piece 2

Artist / Maker: PJB Ceramics

Pamela Broadhurst was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1964.

From 1989 to 2010 she worked as a psychiatric nurse until finding her artistic calling and started to study ceramics at Bradford College. During her time there she focused on collaborating her knowledge about mental health alongside her new found passion for clay to create contemporary sculptures to represent ones descent into madness.

After achieving her BAHons in fine art, she spent the next few years engaging with the clay and perfecting her specialized naked clay techniques. Broadhurst uses Raku and smoke firing to make each one of her pots strictly unique. She first delved into the world of horse hair Raku as the shapes created reminded her of the connections between neurons when looking at a functioning brain.
