Small Round Raku Butterfly

Raku decorated vase based on the shapes of butterflies wings.

Raku is the ancient Japanese art of creating a reduction firing using combustable materials such as sawdust and paper. The combustion reacts with the unglazed clay to create a carbonised black and will alter any glazes that have been applied.

Raku vessels are for decorative purposes only and can’t be used for fresh flower arrangements.

I enjoy the challenge of designing and making individual pieces, using many techniques, this allows me to explore clay in many areas. “
