Julie Edwardson, co-owner of Yore Mill Craft Shop and Gallery, runs art classes here out of her studio.

Julie is drawn to details in the landscape working mainly with acrylic paint and mixed media collage taking inspiration from nature and the effects of man on the landscape.

Sketchbook & Journalling

Use a variety of mixed media techniques to create an experimental sketchbook.

Printmaking:

Using lino and other relief printing methods to create a reduction printed image.
Students will learn to plan a reduction print in 3 colours, working from an initial drawing.
Using a lino printing tile, cutting tools and other methods to cut away the tile, application of inks and the use of a printing press will be demonstrated.
Attendees take away their prints on paper, the print tile and any working proofs.

VIEW DATES

Landscape – Local Area:

Working from collected images, own sourced images using cameras or phones in the local area, attendees will develop some responses to the local landscape in a sketchbook using dry media to record shape colour composition then coming into the studio to work the designs up using acrylic paint.
Developing textures, exploring colours and finally working up a final design onto the gesso board.
Students will learn to use a limited palette to build up a range of colours that harmonise and develop painting confidence and colour mixing.

VIEW DATES

Sketching in Nature:

Using a variety of dry media techniques the course will lead opportunities to get students to loosen up and explore mark making.
Working from observation in nature then to develop a drawing or series of drawings that may lead into paintings in the future as we explore composition and balance in the drawing, viewpoint and lead lines perspective and distance.

Watercolour Painting:

Learning to work confidently with a limited palette.
Looking for the patterns and textures in the environment.
Looking at and recording possible compositions by observing structure in the landscape to find naturally occurring compositions.
Looking for contrast and harmony, warm and cool, receding and advancing in colour.
Observing and recording colour using watercolour paint loosely in a sketchbook to develop confidence and explore before completing a final developed painting on stretched watercolour paper.

Abstract Acrylics:

Learning to work confidently with a limited palette.
Looking for the patterns and textures in the environment.
Looking for contrast and harmony, warm and cool, receding and advancing in colour.
Observing and recording colour using mixed media collage and dry media and paint in a sketchbook to develop confidence and explore before completing a final developed painting on gesso board.

VIEW DATES

Sketchbook Development / Journalling:

Mixed media mark making collage, collecting found materials to work into a journal of the day.
Rubbings or mono printing could provide textures which can be collected on different papers using a variety of dry media, these can then be collaged and built up into an abstract page of a journal.
Drawing from observation can be added and overlayed even stitched marks.
A very free explorative experience of mindfulness and calm in the countryside.
