Parian with glaze stains, textured underneath.
Hand formed delicate dish reminiscent of turtles shells or fossils. Kit has worked clay stains into the otherwise white Parian medium and repeated the folds until a repeated design is created that is intrinsic to the piece.
“My Parian and porcelain work mirrors coastal textures, colours and forms. Clay coloured with oxides, stains and underglazes, is used to create movement in my pieces. I use natural materials such as shells, fossils and coral to mark some of my work. I often use Parian clay which I love as it is self-glazing, I only fire it once and it is semi translucent in places. The shapes are formed over rollers, cardboard or moulds.”
