“Experience of a Place”

A Solo Exhibition by Richard Gray

5 September @ 11:00 am 1 November @ 4:30 pm

This Autumn Yore Mill Gallery showcases a solo exhibition of new work by Richard Gray, “Experience of a Place”.

“I paint atmospheric landscapes, largely inspired by the Yorkshire countryside. My work is rooted in observation, but I am less interested in making an exact record of a particular place than in capturing the feeling of being there.

Light is the main starting point for my paintings. I’m drawn to the way it changes the character of the landscape: the contrast between sun and shadow, mist settling over distant hills, a break in the clouds, or the quiet light at the end of the day. These small changes can completely alter how a familiar place feels.

I try to make paintings that communicate the atmosphere and emotion of a place rather than simply showing what it looks like. Yorkshire provides a constant source of inspiration, with its changing weather, open spaces and distinctive light”.
